Dallas rapper Yella Beezy has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman and possessing an assault rifle, news reports say.

The 19-year-old was arrested in Spring, Texas, on Sunday and charged with both felonies and misdemeanours.

Police say he sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel parking lot in May.

A judge denied bail on Tuesday and set a preliminary hearing date of 22 October.

The woman told police she agreed to meet Yella Beezy – whose real name is Boaz Byrd – after seeing him on social media.

Yella Beezy, whose real name is Boaz Byrd, told police he took her to his hotel room where they had consensual sex.

But he said the woman later awoke in the hotel room to find her clothes torn and that he was not in the room, police say.

Police found evidence the pair had been drinking before the alleged incident, WFAA said.

The rapper – who released his debut album Domino in December – was accused of carrying a pistol on his tour bus in October, police said.
