Toronto man, 30, arrested for more than 2,000 child porn charges

A Toronto man who made and distributed child pornography on the Internet has been arrested and charged with more than 2,000 offences, the Toronto Police Service said Wednesday.

Police said Yasim Masse, 30, was arrested at his home on April 25 after officers executed a search warrant, seizing computers and digital storage devices with photos and videos.

Some of the images and videos show “females who were seen as toddlers but who appeared to be in their teens,” the police said in a statement. “Many are naked, at least one appears to be under 18.”

“Evidence shows that the production and distribution of child pornography is a crime involving hundreds of people across Canada and further afield,” Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said. “In this case, we have seized a significant number of artifacts.”

Police said officers also found multiple child pornography websites used by Masse, including something called “child snatchz.” The police said Masse was arrested after investigators traced downloads of child pornography to his computer and mobile devices.

“This investigation proves once again that criminals have no borders and are not aware of boundaries between countries,” Sidhu said.

News of Masse’s arrest spread quickly online.

“It’s disturbing that men like Masse, who are repeat offenders, can be recognized by an IP address and sometimes can be arrested using modern tools like IP cracking technology,” Sidhu said.

Police said they were planning to release a more detailed photo of Masse and a booking photo as they canvassed the city in hopes of identifying at least a few of the victims from the images and videos.

Masse was scheduled to appear in court on June 10. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had retained an attorney.
